RED CARPER season has begun with 2018 Golden Globes taking place a few weeks ago. Many of the young Hollywood actors were starstruck with beautiful & elegant Meryl Streep, star of the sequel “MAMI MIA: HERE WE GO AGAIN”, filmed on the beautiful island of Vis, Croatia.
In summer 2017 the island of Vis transformed into a Hollywood movie set as the shooting the feature film “MAMA MIA: HERE WE GO AGAIN!” took place. Hollywood stars including Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Andy Garcia, Amanda Seyfried and Colin Firth all frolicked on this beautiful Mediterranean island, that was only in the summer of 1998 opened to foreign visitors.
Vis, located halfway between Croatia & Italy, 35 NM from our home port, presents the furthest inhabited island of the Croatian coast and was strategically significant in the Adriatic Sea. After the Second World War Vis became a military base to which access was strictly controlled.This protection from tourist development left the island unspoiled and the local population has been able to carry on their traditional livelihoods – fishing and farming.
Vis is the heavenly cradle of culture, seafood & amazing wines. For centuries Vis has also been famous for wine and fish dishes. Opol is an outstandingly good light red wine, Viško Crno is a strong heavy red and Vugava a rather rich white wine.
However recently it was drown to my attention the new liquid product from this small and mysterious island.With the evolution of craft beer industry we were not surprised that PRVO VISKO PIVO (eng. first beer from Vis) appeared,but were amazed with quality of the product. So if you are not a wine lover, try a good craft beet PRVO VISKO PIVO.
Worth visiting between 9 and 11 o’clock, is the nearby island of Biševo, inhabited only. by 11 residence, famous for its Blue Grotto (known locally as Modra Špilja). This sea cave was discovered in 1886 and it is approachable only by boat. Do not miss in Vis: Archaeological museum, located in the former fortress of Our Lady’s Battery, built by the Austrians at the beginning of 19th century and FORT GEORGE, built in 1813 by the British Royal Navy. Or the Vis Military Tour organized by ALTERNATURA.
Vis will enchant you for sure, with its vibe and lay-back attitude.It was the perfect movie set for MAMA MIA movie and it will be the perfect setting for your yachting experience.
